by Greg Cryns At
the regular board meeting on September 1, 2004, the Richmond village board hired
a new village attorney, Lisa M. Waggoner. She is a member of the Waggoner Law
Firm in Crystal Lake, Illinois. This action followed the resignation of Michael
Fetterer who recently was appointed as a judge in McHenry County. The
resolution for her appointment stated that the board will reevaluate Waggoner in
six months. This leaves the door open to seek a new attorney at that time. Trustee
Daniel Deters said, “Lisa was not my first choice. But Kevin Brusek really
wanted her for the position. The compromise was to give her an opportunity to
show that she does have the experience the village requires.” Trustee
Roy Wulffen said, “We had to find a new attorney because Mike Fetterer moved
on to the judge’s position. Lisa applied for the job. We interviewed her and
determined that she was well suited for the job. She has a lot of experience
with growth and developers. We think that will help us in the near future. “ The
board also appointed Ryan Schmidt as the Village Prosecutor. Schmidt comes from
the law firm Cowlin,
Naughton, Curran and Coppedge which is also headquartered in Crystal Lake. The
firm also represents Crystal Lake, Huntley, Wonder Lake, Nunda Rural Fire
Protection District, Richmond Township Fire Protection District, and the Marengo
Park District. In
other business resident Carmen Deese publicly thanked police chief Roger Szewczyk
and officer Brian Quilici for their kind assistance in a recent auto mishap. In
other business the board discussed the fact that some people are paying much
higher water bills than other people in the town. According to Village President
Kevin Brusek the McDonald’s restaurant in Richmond has an extraordinary bill
of $4,000 and the village offered to help the restaurant determine the cause.
Brusek said the average water bill for houses is $25 per month. Melissa
Eldredge stated that she had difficulty hearing the tornado alarm during recent
bad weather. She asked that the village look into obtaining another alarm.
Brusek said that the village is looking to buy another alarm for the south side
of town. Brusek also said that the village did very well financially during Round Up Days. He reported $17,500 in revenue from the event. The Rotary will get about $8,000, the Lions Club $4,000 and each community group that participated in the children’s games will receive between $400 and $800 for their efforts |
