Schultz election petition challenged
by Greg Cryns 2/3/05
Charles
W. Schultz Jr submitted the required signatures with his petition to be
added to the ballot on April 5 as a candidate for Richmond Village
President. He neglected to attach a receipt from the County for Economic
Interests. This error may cost him a spot on the election ballot. However,
Schultz said he will fight to maintain his position on the ballot. There
will be a hearing on Monday, February 7, 2005 at the county courthouse in
Woodstock. Village
Clerk Karla Thomas said, “Schultz failed to file the proper paperwork. He
did not include his economic interest receipt. This is mandatory.” Thomas
herself is not objecting to Schultz’s candidacy. According to Thomas three
people challenged the petition: Charles Eldredge, David DelGatto, Chip
Eldredge and Sue Sullivan. DelGatto and Eldredge were active in Richmond
politics in the past. All of them opposed the election of Schultz to the
trustee position in 2003. Schultz
said he does not want to say anything about this issue until after the
hearing. “I want the election board to hear my side of the story first,”
said Schultz. A
three member election board will include Thomas andd trustees Dan Deters and
Dave Kielpinski. President Kevin Brusek excused himself from the board
because he is running for the same office. The
trustee positions of Dave Kielpinski and Bruce Hunter and an open trustee
spot will be on the ballot in April. Four people submitted petitions for
these positions including Cindy Walleck, Dave Kielpinski, Bruce Hunter and
Dennis Bardy, a teacher at Richmond Burton High School.
