Richmond board hires law firm to fight Tamarack lawsuit

The Richmond village board approved the hiring of The Jeff Diver Group to represent the village against a lawsuit brought by Tamarack Development LLC regarding The Classics development.

Tamarack owner, Peter Bell, said the potential money involved could be one million dollars or more. "The trustees' refusal to responsibly meet with the Tamarack Development places the financial viability at risk," said Bell shortly after the lawsuit was initiated.

However, Village President Kevin Brusek said that he has not received a final decision from the village’s insurance company as to whether the company will represent the village. If the company decides to defend the village, Brusek said that the Divers Group may not be needed or would assume a lesser role.

The board approved that $50,000 be moved to a special legal defense account.

Michael Blazer will be representing the village board from The Jeff Diver Group. “We certainly appreciate the opportunity to represent the village,” said Blazer. “We recognize that this is a matter of very substantial importance to the village and its residents. I am confident that we can achieve a result that will be in the best interests of residents of the village. I’ve been a litigator my entire career and I understand the angst that is involved when somebody is in litigation. I am also very aware of the level of trust and confidence in a lawyer when you hire them particularly if you’ve never met before. In my experience that applies to defendants such as the Richmond board of trustees whose primary aim is to represent the citizens of their town.”
