At a special meeting on May 24, 2005, the library board installed its new officers. In the past library officers were installed at the next regular meeting after the election. Under a new rule, the library boards in Illinois are directed to make installations after May 16th.

Newly elected board members included Adrianne Adams, Sue Rekenthaler, and incumbents Linda Geng, Greg Cryns and Robert Johnston.

The board also elected officers. President: Adrianne Adams; Vice-President: Adam Metz; Linda Geng: secretary; Robert Johnston: treasurer.

In public comments Richmond resident Bruce Young said, “There are many faiths in this community, not just one. I hope you will represent all of us and give us back our library." Young was referring to the unusual changes introduced to the library recently including removing references to the American Library Association (ALA) from the library policy manual.

Library Director Kathryn Hausman described the new board as “well-balanced.” Hausman added, “I hope I will be allowed to do what is needed by our patrons.”

Highlighting future agendas will be a search for a new Library Director to replace Hausman who is retiring in November
