At the regular scheduled meeting on May 18th the board accepted the resignations of Karla Thomas as Village Clerk and Kathleen Hellman as Village Treasurer.  Hellman was sworn in as the new Village Clerk. Hellman has previous experience in this position with Richmond village.

James Speaker took over the Village Treasurer position. Speaker is a long time resident of the village who also worked as a paramedic on the Fire Department. He teaches math at Marion Central High School.

Officer Rich Contant assumed the permanent position as the Richmond Police Chief. Contant took over temporarily for Roger Szewczyk over a month ago.

A developer is seeking to build 41 luxury homes on the south side of Hill Road off Route 12. There are 56 acres in the development. The two story brick homes will start in price at approximately $750,000. The board approved provisional platting for the development that is not currently annexed to the village but is within the
1 ˝ mile jurisdiction of the village.

Trustee Dan Deters was concerned about the oak trees on the acreage. “It is our job to protect natural assets,” said Deters. He wants to make sure that the development spares as many trees as possible during construction.

Castle Gardens would like to put a 3- sided sign near the retail store at Rt. 12 and Rt. 31. The board approved a variance for the sign if it is at 100 square feet per side. Representatives from the business said the sign would be pleasing to the eye.

It was announced that the Public Works department completed the sewer and water hookup work on Liberty Street.

In public comments Charlie Eldredge thanked the law enforcement officers of McHenry County for accompanying him to Washington D.C. for a special ceremony for his uncle and great grandfather.

An audience member asked that the village post the upcoming agendas on the village website and to have the village office open one evening a week to assist people who work all day. President Lauri Olson said she would look into both requests.

It was noted that the latest agenda outline broke with tradition by not putting a second opportunity for public comments. In addition, the items that could be voted on are no longer starred. Village Administrator Tim Savage said the board can vote on any item on the agenda except that which is specified as “new business.”

The board went into closed session for pending litigation and personnel issues.

Starting in June, 2005, regular village meetings will be held on the first and third Thursdays of the month. They will begin ˝ hour earlier at 7:00 pm.
